Changes start with the exterior, where almost everything has been refreshed, including the front bumper, the engine hood, and the fender. The front end of the 2020 Outlander Sport now wears a DYNAMIC SHIELD grille surrounded by LED headlights and LED daytime running lamps. Plus, LED taillights are now standard on the Outlander Sport.

The updated exterior is finished off with a new bumper fascia and 18-inch alloy wheels. Drivers now have three new exterior colors to choose from, as well: Sunshine Orange, Red Diamond, and Oak Brown.

On the inside, new fabrics and improved knobs and switches demonstrate the modern and thoughtful design of the Outlander Sport. Individual trims get new standard features, like the 8-inch Smartphone-link Display Audio, which is now standard on the ES trim, and driver-assist features like Lane Departure Warning, Automatic High Beams, and Forward Collision Mitigation, which are all included in the SE trim.

How to Choose the Right Windshield Washer Fluid

Did you know there are actually multiple types of windshield washer fluid? The many versions of this necessary tool serve different purposes, and choosing the right one for your needs can make a big difference in visibility.

If you live in an area with icy, snowy winters, de-icing windshield washer fluid is an excellent choice. This one is designed to break down ice and frost and to withstand very low temperatures, so it’s a convenient tool to have during the cold season.

Bug-remover windshield washer fluid isn’t just for bugs. This type is made to take on most debris, like pollen or bird droppings. If you’re planning a long summer trip, it’s worth the extra upcharge to opt for this type which will keep your windshield clean and clear.

All-season wiper fluid is the best of everything, with the ability to remove snow, bugs, and dirt. Just be sure to check the temperature rating to see if it can handle the lowest temperatures in your area.

You’ll find the standard blue windshield washer fluid at most gas stations. This one will get the job done but may not work as well at removing bugs or ice from the windshield. Buy it premixed or take the bargain route and get a concentrate you can mix with water.

How the Mitsubishi Dendo Drive House System Works

The pursuit of clean energy has allowed Mitsubishi to develop a whole new technology – the Dendo Drive House System. Showcased at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, Mitsubishi designed the system so that your home and your EV can share electric power with one another through the use of solar panels and a home battery.

If you’re interested in this technology, you’ll have to schedule an appointment to have a professional install the system in your house. Once installed, the home battery will be able to charge your EV using the house’s electrical power. However, if there is excess energy leftover in the EV at the end of a long day, it can function as a sort of backup generator by providing energy to the house as well. One benefit of this is the ability to continue powering the house with your vehicle during a power outage.

The Dendo Drive House System was revealed alongside the new Mitsubishi Engelberg Tourer, an all-electric SUV, in Geneva and it’s said to be compatible with the new vehicle. Mitsubishi representatives have revealed that other EVs and PHEV hybrids in its lineup are also compatible with the technology. Bringing clean energy to the forefront of its brand is a big step in a sustainable direction for Mitsubishi.

Outlander PHEV Becomes Best-Selling Mitsubishi Model in Europe

Mitsubishi has been enjoying a new level of success thanks to the popularity of the Outlander family of crossovers. In the U.S., the Outlander Sport continues to be the best-selling Mitsubishi model in the United States, but over in Europe, an unexpected contender has taken the number-one spot – the 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. The plug-in hybrid variant of the Outlander name has become a top pick for European drivers.

Since its 2013 debut in Japan, the Outlander PHEV has reached cumulative sales of 200,000 units sold around the world, a new record for members of the plug-in hybrid segment. Europe is responsible for over 130,000 of those sales over the course of the four years it has been available to the European market. Its efficient engine, innovative hybrid powertrain, and crossover versatility make it an appealing pick for buyers who don’t want to compromise space or capability for a fuel-efficient vehicle.

Will the U.S. catch up to Europe? The American Outlander PHEV is a far cry from being the country’s best-selling Mitsubishi model, but it also debuted late stateside, coming to the American market several years later than other global markets. Hybrids and EVs are also more popular in Europe than here. However, increasing interest in the green car market could spell even more future success for the Outlander PHEV.

Mitsubishi Finally Releases the Eclipse Cross in South Africa

Here in the United States, we have gotten to enjoy the sophisticated Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross for over a year. However, in other places in the world, it’s just getting started. In fact, Mitsubishi just released the Eclipse Cross in South Africa.

The South African model will be similar to the model available in North America, except it will only come with two trims choices: one with front-wheel drive and the other with Super All-Wheel Control. Here in the U.S., it has five trim levels. Another difference that South Africa has left-hand traffic, so the driver and front passenger seat are switched.

South Africans will find the Eclipse Cross comes well-equipped with features like leather upholstery, a head-up display, Bluetooth, voice controls, keyless entry, and a 7-inch touchscreen display. Buyers can also add on a built-in navigation system. Standard safety features include traction and stability control, hill start assist, and anti-lock brakes.

In the United States, the Eclipse Cross comes with a beefier warranty. In South Africa, it will only come with a 3-year/100,000-kilometer warranty and a 5-year/90,000-kilometer service plan. In the U.S., we get to enjoy a 10-year/100,000-mile Powertrain Warranty and a 5-year/60,000-mile New Vehicle Warranty.

2019 Mitsubishi Outlander Earns IIHS Top Safety Pick

One of the Mitsubishi Outlander model’s key strengths is its impeccable safety record. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) recently awarded the 2019 Outlander with the Top Safety Pick title for the sixth consecutive year.

The Outlander earned “good” ratings across the board in all crash tests and a “superior” rating in front-crash prevention. It also earned an “acceptable” rating in the headlights assessment.

Per The News Wheel, the model’s available Touring Package largely contributed to its performance during these tests. The package includes advanced driver assist features such as Blind Spot Warning with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Change Assist, Forward Collision Mitigation, Lane Departure Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Automatic High Beam headlights.

Mark Chaffin, chief operating officer for Mitsubishi Motors North America, expressed pride at the model’s latest achievement. “Earning the IIHS Top Safety Pick is a key reason for customers to place the Outlander at the top of their shopping list, proving it one of the most competitive vehicles in the incredibly popular compact SUV segment.”

Four Useful Items For Your Winter Car Survival Kit

Don’t let a breakdown incident catch you unprepared. Stock your vehicle with useful winter car survival items now to help ensure that you and your passengers stay as safe and comfortable as possible if you get stranded on the side of the road. Here are four items you should include in the kit.

  1. LED Flashlight – The worst problems always seem to happen at night. If your vehicle breaks down due to an issue with the battery, you’ll need a source of light to help illuminate the area under the hood. LED flashlights last a long time and are bright and effective. It’s a better option than relying on a smartphone’s flashlight, since if you’re stranded, you’ll want to conserve your phone’s battery power.
  2. Smartphone Car Charger – Roadside assistance is an invaluable tool in a winter emergency, but it might be a while before help arrives. Make sure to include a portable phone charger in your survival kit, which will help ensure that you can connect first responders until they appear on the scene.
  3. Portable Air Compressor – Drops in the temperature are notorious for rapidly deflating the tires. With a portable air compressor powered by your car’s battery, you can take care of the issue yourself. This will spare you the trouble of calling assistance, and help you avoid the safety hazard of driving on underinflated tires to a gas station nearby.
  4. Jumper Cables – Cold weather also takes a toll on car batteries. Make sure to include jumper cables in your survival kit, so you can get back on the road more quickly.

For more tips on assembling your winter car kit, contact us at Biggers Mitsubishi. We can also set you up with a maintenance appointment to help ensure that your vehicle functions smoothly this winter.
