The Elgin, Illinois economy has seen substantial growth compared to surrounding cities. Much of this growth is in the improving housing market. In housing, Elgin ranked third behind Chicago and Naperville. The number is impressive to say the least, and things are only looking to improve further with over 50% of the city’s total population working locally. That’s a total of over 60,000 people working within the city each and every day.
“Elgin’s 350 housing starts are even more impressive when compared to other communities: Joliet 131, Aurora 107, St. Charles 21, Algoquin 16, Libertyville 12 and Rockford 1,” former president Rick Jakle said. The city increased commercial and industrial space by 395,000 square feet, up from 2011 and 2012. In 2013 the city increased space by 459,000 square feet. Much thanks is owed to Elgin Development Group (EDG).
EDG is paid by the city government to persuade new businesses to move to Elgin. In 2015, the group will work with nonprofit program Hope Fair Housing. By working with companies to encourage employees to buy homes (via incentives), Elgin hopes to see new residents. The annual awards luncheon in honor of businesses will be held at Elgin Community College on March 18th at 11:30 am.
On Thursday morning, the Chicago Auto Show introduced the new Mitsubishi GC-PHEV Concept in front of the world. The “Grand Cruiser” crossover raises the stakes for a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle.
With its massive size, this concept promises to save a lot of fuel and even in a time where gas prices have magically fallen to lows we haven’t seen in years, this model, along with other PHEVs, will attract a wide audience. Our General Sales Manager, Emal Noor, says that the future warrants an appeal for rides such as this one.
“Even though fuel prices have come down a little bit, I still think everybody has a little anxiety and has the knowledge they might go back up,” Noor said in a Daily Herald interview. “So I think the small sport utes, CUVs, crossovers are still what’s going to be mostly in demand.”
This crossover runs on an eight-speed automatic transmission and supercharged V6 engine that pumps out 335 horsepower. Mitsubishi claims that this aggressively-styled crossover concept will go 25 miles on electric power only and get 35 miles per gallon.
Don Swearingen of Mitsubishi Motors called it “economical and environmental-friendly yet rugged and powerful and full of advanced technology.”
You can take a closer look of the big new Mitsubishi GC-PHEV Concept in the video below, as well as our Mitsubishi inventory here, and tell us what you think in the comments section below!
On January 1, 2015, leasing a vehicle in Illinois became quite a bit more attractive (by 50%, if you look at the numbers). The new Illinois Leasing Law reduces the amount of tax that a customer would pay while leasing a car.
Prior to 2015, a customer would pay tax on the purchase price of the car, even though a lease acts as a long-term rental. This made leasing a car unappealing. Nationally the lease rate is right around 26%, but in Illinois it has been only 14%. Chicago is even lower than that, at only 8% of all vehicle sales being leases. New York, for example, has a nearly 50% lease rate. The new law states that a customer only has to pay taxes on the down payment and subsequent monthly payments.
The new leasing law makes leasing a car in Illinois like most other states. One change that also came into effect is trade-ins no longer influence the amount of taxes on a lease vehicle. Previously, a lease would reduce the value of the purchase price of the vehicle, thus reducing taxes.
Texas is the only remaining state where leasing is based upon the purchase price of the vehicle.
January is Train Your Dog Month. But as anyone who has any experience in the matter knows, training dogs is largely about training yourself on how to understand your dog and what your dog needs, like how to care for your furry friend as he or she rides along in the car. That’s why with a little help from our friends at the Humane Society, we are sharing a few tips on how to travel safely with dogs.
NO ROAMING. A roaming dog in the car can be an enormous distraction to the driver. Dogs are impulsive and without notice, they can interfere with the driver’s ability to operate the car. They should be in a crate that is anchored with a seat belt.
GET IN THE BACK. Air bags can injure a dog if it is sitting in the front seat. Of course, a lot of cars now have side curtain airbags in the rear as well. This is something to research before travelling with your dog.
HEAD INSIDE. No matter how much your canine seems to dig the fresh air, the truth is that he or she can be injured by debris. And remember, they can get sick just like we can, so constant exposure to cold air is not a good idea.
