Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Debuts at Frankfurt Motor Show

Outlander PHEV in Frankfurt
The 2016 Mitsubishi PHEV was revealed this month at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

The Frankfurt International Motor Show was the platform chosen by Mitsubishi to debut its new Outlander PHEV. It was previously known that the SUV’s appearance carried over most of the base Outlander’s design. However, the redesigned front fascia, along with a few other minor changed elements, gives the car a personality that is dynamic and powerful despite its status as a PHEV, and the car’s SUV title was not forgotten during the Outlander PHEV debut in Frankfurt.

In addition to the fascia improvements, other Outlander PHEV appearance changes will include exclusive two-tone 18-inch wheels and LED lights. The use of LED technology will both give the SUVs a modern look, in addition to reducing battery drainage. The Outlander PHEV will also provide drivers and passengers with a quieter and more comfortable ride due to the use of sound-proof insulation, padded doors, and brown leather interiors, among other things – Mitsubishi took the time to make 30 improvements to the car to ensure consumer satisfaction.

The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV makes use of two separate engines to power both the front and back wheels, but in this latest rendition of the car, Mitsubishi has reduced engine friction to cut emissions even further. V2H, or Vehicle to Home, technology is also at work in the car, allowing car owners to plug the Outlander PHEV into their home while charging to use as a backup power generator. Though a lot was already known about the car, it was still exciting to see the Outlander PHEV in Frankfurt.

Outlander Leads Mitsubishi August Sales

Mitsubishi August Sales
The Mitsubishi Outlander has had a phenomenal year.

In a recent press release, Mitsubishi Motors America unveiled its 2015 August sales numbers for public viewing, and the statistics are staggering. The company has seen its best August numbers since 2008. Mitsubishi August sales in 2015 are a significant improvement over 2014’s numbers from the same time period, boasting a 22.1% increase in overall sales.

The 2016 Outlander Sport outshone the rest, selling 3,286 units in the month of August alone. The base Outlander itself, which sold 2,188 units in August, was redesigned for the 2016 model year, with over 100 improvements made by Mitsubishi to improve the SUV’s appeal. The improvements worked, luring in enough buyers that the Outlander’s total sales jumped 92.9% from August 2014 to August of this year. The SUV saw its best August sales in 12 years.

Other vehicles in Mitsubishi’s lineup include the Mirage, which sold 1,569 units in August, and the Lancer, which sold 1,240. However, Mitsubishi August sales were definitely led by the incredible sales of the Outlander and Outlander Sport, paving the way for future success.
