No one likes traffic. Even when its traffic due to construction that will improve the area in the long run and make traveling easier on our vehicles, it can be hard to see the forest from the trees. Many of you, like us here at Biggers Mitsubishi, have likely gotten caught in traffic on the Jane Addams Tollway from Rockford to O’Hare International Airport at some point over the past two years. Good news: as of December 16th, the widening project for that section of the Tollway is finally complete!
The construction was part of a $2.5 billion project named the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway Rebuilding and Widening project. After two years, this 37-mile stretch of the Tollway boasts three new lanes and the speed limit is back to 65 mph on I-90 between the Elgin Toll Plaza and I-39 in Rockford.
“We thank our customers for their patience and support during the two years of construction to rebuild and widen the 37 miles from Rockford to Elgin,” said Kristi Lafleur, who serves as the executive director for the Illinois Tollway.
As we enjoy the newly paved roadway, Jane Addams Tollway construction crews will move to the second phase of the Rebuilding and Widening project, which will take place on I-90 between Elgin and the Tri-State Tollway. Phase two is expected to be complete by the end of 2016.
When you’re driving in the wintertime, you want to make sure your car has the capability to stay on the road despite weather conditions. Handling is one of the most important aspects of a car, which is why Mitsubishi researches advanced 4WD systems.
Mitsubishi’s 4WD technology largely consists of two systems: the electronic 4WD system and Super Select 4WD II. Basic electronic systems now come with three selectable modes (auto, lock, and 2WD) which allow you to choose what’s best. Auto mode is particularly useful in the winter because it automatically distributes the power where needed, adjusting to conditions.
“Mitsubishi Motors brings the same strong focus on quality to all of its 4WD vehicles. We are realizing the same level of startability and handling as in full-blown 4WDs like the jeep, the first Mitsubishi 4WD,” said Mitsubishi representatives. “Mitsubishi takes into consideration the size and use of each vehicle in order to implement the most appropriate 4WD system.”
The Super Select 4WD II is offered in models like the Pajero, which has quick shifting modes that allows for optimum control while maintaining great fuel-economy. This advanced system selects between 4 different driving modes, making sure you never get stuck.
